Alice Nellie (or Nelly) Barnett

Family background
Alice Nellie (or Nelly) Barnett was born in Auckland on 8 August 1886. Alice's parents, Walter Henry (Harry) Barnett (1 Aug 1844 - 7 May 1908) and his wife Elizabeth Lanfear (9 Oct 1853 - 17 Aug 1937), were both English-born immigrants to New Zealand.

Alice was one of eleven children:

• Isabella (Bell) Barnett (31 Aug 1880 - 16 May 1959)

• Sydney (Syd) Walter Barnett (26 June 1884 - 20 Aug 1971) 
• Alice Nellie (or Nelly) Barnett (8 Aug 1886 - 4 Mar 1888)
• Chrissie Barnett (24 Dec 1888 - 8 Jan 1889) 
• Stanley (Stan) James Barnett (20 Dec 1889- 31 July 1964)
• Bertie (Bert) Edward Barnett (31 Dec 1891 - 8 Mar 1917)
• Arthur William Barnett (24 Oct 1895 - 27 Mar 1980)
• Baden (Bay/Barney) Thomas Barnett (29 Aug 1900 - 15 Jan 1993)

Alice died at her family home on James Street, Arch Hill, Auckland, on 4 March 1888 aged 18 months. Her death certificate records that she had suffered from diarrhea for four days prior to her death, and during the last 15 hours of her life, she also had convulsions. Two days after Alice died she was buried at Waikumete Cemetery. Her unmarked grave can be found in the Anglican Division B, Row 6, Plot 21.
